I feel like a lot of things are being done backwards or out of order on our build compared to other custom builds I’ve been seeing. I know I shouldn’t compare but it’s hard not to sometimes.
For instance, our fireplace here: every other build I’ve seen (even our own previous build) had the firebox installed before drywall. We don’t even have a chimney yet. Nor do we have siding either.
We had a little delay on interior doors and had to cancel our custom order. We went around to 4 different Home Depot stores with a truck and purchased all 22 of our interior doors. We didn’t get the exact style we wanted and we ended up paying extra for the trim package that we wanted but at least we got the project moving again.

Our latest schedule shows a completion date into April now. womp womp womp. Here’s what happened in January, 2021:
Jan 6-11:
- Tile delivered
- Drywall sanded and primed
Jan 16:
- Ceilings painted
- Electrical outlets and switches installed
- Canned lights installed
Jan 20-22:
- Purchased interior doors and delivered them to the house
- Kitchen cabinets delivered from manufacturer
- Interior doors installed
- Trim started
