I’m a little behind on posting our monthly build update. No excuses … and if I’m being honest, I just didn’t feel like typing it up because I have been feeling very negative toward the build lately.
In a time where the most exciting features are going into our home and I should be pumped, I’m actually feeling very stressed out and I just want . it . done . now! This is a combination of how we are constantly being told things are supposed to happen on “x” date and then they don’t happen as well as the fact that our schools are now offering 4 days in person learning for those who selected the hybrid method — and because our build isn’t done yet, we couldn’t select hybrid for our kids.

I need some sanity. I need some normalcy. I need some organization. I need my house.
If you follow along on IG or FB, you’ll already know this but one of my biggest annoyances with the build right now is the transition from tile to wood. We were talked into using these metal finishing strips for the transitions with the benefit being touted as a smooth transition from tile to floor. In fact, we were told that the traditional wood or marble transitions were typically used by folks who don’t know how to install properly and they presented as a trip hazard. However, what we are currently left with is something that looks like I DIYd the job myself and it’s still a trip hazard.
Underneath all of our tiled spaces, they installed DUROCK, which made the tiled spaces end up about 1/2″ higher than the wood flooring. I’m now trying to figure out the best “not optimal” choice for fixing this.
Here’s what happened in February, 2021, in no particular order:
- Trim around windows and baseboards and quarter round installed
- Ceiling fans and light fixtures started to be hung
- Walls and trim painted
- Kitchen cabinets installed
- Flooring and tile installed
- Bathroom vanities installed
